It is primarily the responsibility and prerogative of the the trial court to determine whether evidence offered as scientific or expert evidence is sufficiently reliable to be admissible as scientific or expert evidence.

United States v. Simpson, 152 F.3d 1241, 1249-1250 (10th Cir. 1998) (upholding trial court's admission into evidence of the computer printout of the chat room discussion between the defendant and a detective because "the....A thing or matter is sufficiently authenticated to be admissible in evidence if the authenticating evidence submitted to the trial court is sufficient -- strong enough -- to permit a reasonable jury or reasonable trier of fact to conclude that the proffered thing or matter is authentic, that the proffered thing or matter is what its proponent claims it is.

Summers, 414 F.3d 1287, 1302 (10th Cir. 2005) (holding that the trial court abused its discretion in admitting Mohammed's statement at trial because "Mohammed's hearsay statement, 'How did you guys find us....The right of confrontation guaranteed by the Confrontation Clause of the Sixth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution puts no constraints on the admissibility of nontestimonial hearsay statements; the federal constitutional right of confrontation does not apply to such statements.

Hall, 419 F.3d 980, 987 (9th Cir. 2005) (holding that the trial court properly admitted the hearsay statements of defendant's girlfriend because they were introduced in a supervised release....The Due Process and Compulsory Process guarantees give a defendant in a federal or state criminal trial the constitutional right, not only to compel the attendance of defense witnesses, but also to introduce trustworthy hearsay evidence that is critical or important to the defendant's defense.
