Poverty is generally irrelevant to the question of the doing of an act (such as theft) by showing motive (such as desire for money) for the act.

Fed. R. Evid. 415(b) ("A party who intends to offer evidence under this Rule shall disclose the evidence to the party against whom it will be offered, including statements of witnesses or a summary of the substance of any testimony that is expected to be offered, at least fifteen days before the scheduled date of trial or at such later...In a case in which a party intends to offer evidence of other sexual wrongs under a rule such as Federal Rule of Evidence 415 or a comparable State rule, the offering party may be required to disclose such evidence in advance to the party against whom such evidence will be offered.

Cleveland v. KFC National Management Co., 948 F. Supp. 62, 65 (N.D. Ga. 1996) (holding, in employee's action against employer for sexual harassment, that evidence of employer's past sexual misconduct was probative as it corroborated plaintiff's story ).Federal Rule of Evidence 415 and comparable rules in some states create an exception to the prohibition against "circumstantial" character evidence, the prohibition in Federal Rule against the use of character to show conduct. Rules such as Rule 415 provide that in a civil action which a claim rests on a party's alleged conduct constituting a criminal sexual assault or child molestation, evidence of that party's commission of another offense or offenses of sexual assault or child molestation is relevant and admissible.

Fed. R. Evid. 803(4) ("Statements made for purposes of medical diagnosis or treatment and describing medical history, or past or present symptoms, pain, or sensations, or the inception or general character of the cause or external source thereof insofar as reasonably pertinent to diagnosis or treatment.").Federal Rule of Evidence 803(4) or a comparable State rule creates a hearsay exception for a statement made for the purpose of medical diagnosis or treatment.
